LCD Enclosures for Digital Signage and Backyard Protection

LCD enclosures – the summer saver!

When is a backyard not just a backyard…when it’s a home cinema, and in order for this to be the ultimate home cinema experience, an LCD enclosure for digital signage and backyard protection is paramount. Whether you are watching a ball game, movie or concert, creating the right atmosphere with lighting, sound and a fabulous screen will be the envy of your neighbors. But this in turn may cause a problem – namely one of theft and mindless damage due to selfish resentfulness.

LCD enclosures protecting your hardware AND cash!

Why should your hard earned dollar be destroyed by a vandal? Really the answer to protect your property is to encase the outdoor screen with an LCD enclosure. This is also the case for any other application of electronic display screens; only a secure LCD enclosure is adequate enough to withstand a hammer attack, tree branch falling and even a hurricane!

LCD enclosures suit many applications, not just for backyard protection, let’s study some more examples of where they can be found…

  • Shopping malls – indoors and out of doors
  • Large public events – music concerts, sporting venues
  • Religious worship – outside congregational information
  • Car dealerships – promotional advertising
  • Fuel forecourts – advertisements for both in-store and local businesses
  • Theater and cinema entertainment – self serve and ticket collection
  • A transit hub – even a ferry terminal, as it is prone to both sea water and rain
  • And so many, many more…

One of the most common places, many of us will find an electronic display screen, encased in an LCD enclosure will be in a shopping mall. From entering the car park, through to individual stores offering discounts via a touch screen, all the screens will be (or certainly should be!) protected by an LCD enclosure. LCD enclosures come in different sizes and take screens from 36” – measure the screen on the diagonal -up to75”, and there are options for bespoke or custom housing units from www.lcdtvenclosure.com

LCD enclosures

The main reasons for protecting screens with secure LCD enclosures, are;
a) to secure the hardware – from theft and damage
b) to protect the public – from interfering with the screen, cables or using a broken shard of glass from the screen as a weapon
c) to shield the electronic screen from weather damage – we all know water and electrics don’t mix!

But, let’s return to the back yard. It is a restful place – a haven for escapism. Maybe you enjoy watching TV in the hot tub, which you plan on using all year round. It certainly needs enclosing and protecting from condensation generated by the hot water, then there is the rain. Even if you live in a relatively dry state, there will be times of stormy wet weather. And naturally, there is the heat buildup; from both the hardware and the outside temperature, particularly in the summer months and the southern states.

So, as you plan for your outdoor sanctuary; beer in the cooler and TV primed (protected in LCD enclosures, of course), the only thing left to say… is ‘enjoy’!

An AV installers Friend

What is classed as an AV installers friend?

This can be anything that makes the job easier, as most audio visual engineers (AV installers)  have so much to deal with on an installation.

av installer

Installers infographic

These protective housings allow AV installers to deploy their hardware in almost any situation, no matter how risky and sometimes locations have been dismissed due to the vulnerability of the location.

Now flat panel displays can be installed outdoors in high footfall areas in an flat panel enclosure and also projectors can now be added to their outdoor arsenal of solutions with the use of projector enclosures.

If this article helps, on audio visual installers friends please share it.

Projectors and the 4K outdoor cinemas

Growth of projectors.

The history of the projector saw itself first in schools, as the old OHP, but with the introduction of projectors within cinemas, we have seen a better customer experience, with the projected image being almost life like.

A walk down memory lane.

If you are of a certain age you will remember the OHP (Over Head Projector), this was common in every classroom of every school across the country. But then the technology made a large jump forward and the projectors became smaller but more powerful.

OHP

In the 90’s we saw the main players who manufactured this type of hardware, making solutions for the office environment and then we saw a rise in projectors being used in boardrooms and conference rooms of major corporations across the world. If you did not embrace video conferencing using projectors your company as a dinosaur!

As the OHP died, it did not seem long until the High Definition hardware appears, these has been superseded in the past few years with the 4K hardware. This technology is much more superior to HD imagery, providing very clear and vivid colors.

2000 saw projectors being used in cinemas.

One of the main players in this sector as a global leader is Christie, their projectors are used in both indoor and outdoor cinemas and even government bodies use them for outdoor events.

Now when you go to a drive in movie, check the image quality of the movie and I am certain that you are in for a good experience, as more often than not, the hardware used will be from Christies. Then if the hardware is left outdoors it will more than likely be housed in a secure, weatherproof housing from ProEnc.

A projector from Christies can cost from $30,000 to $125,000, so if you had invested this kind of money in the hardware, you would want to protect it, this is why outdoor projector housings are used, as these protect the hardware from all the elements outside that can cause problems with electronics. The last thing you want is the projector to fail, due to the electronics becoming wet and then having to replace the projector with a new one because adequate protection was not used.

4K projectors

Is the future bright?

Sure it is, with most leading manufacturers looking at 16K technology for the next growth industry. When 16K is launched you will see a massive rush for 4K hardware as the prices will fall almost overnight, making it possible for the everyday guy to purchase the high end hardware associated with multimillion dollar corporations.

Remember to check out the images at the drive in next time and look for the projectors.

On vehicle digital signage gearing up

On vehicle digital signage solutions.

On vehicle digital signage is an area that is growing extremely fast, with many companies trying to offer a solution but failing. Discover the solutions that are working and working well.

Transit on vehicle digital signage.

As you can imagine taxi digital signage, in a major city such as Manhattan New York, can be very lucrative, for ad agencies selling space. One cell provider Verifone operates around 90 cabs in New York, sell the advertising space in blocks of 15 seconds, forming an advertising loop of 120 seconds. Once thing is certain, advertising on these will not be cheap!

Public bus and coach transportation has had many years’ experience selling printed ads that are mounted to the side of the vehicle, now using on vehicle digital signage, they can now offer digital advertising solutions.

With talk of vehicles such as paramedics, fire and police vehicles having on vehicle advertising solutions, this may be a step too far! Next we may be asking the Major of New York to wear a digital lapel sign!

Not many players in the market!

When seeking out an on vehicle digital signage solution provider, you will find they are thin on the ground. The reason is that not many providers have the experience or knowledge to provide a digital signage solution that will work in these extreme conditions.

For example the housing has to withstand all the weather conditions form scorching heat to freezing cold. It has also have incorporated in the design anti vibration mounts that prevent any damage to the internal hardware, such as the display and media player.

That brings us on to the displays, using a regular display is not good enough, it will fail almost immediately! The best solution is a sun bright display these come in brightness’s up to and including 10,000 candelas, that equates to 33 times the brightness of a home display.

These basic components form the base of the solution, if the screen fails or cannot be seen during the day, then the advertisers are not getting a fair return on their investment.

on vehicle digital signage

Bus digital signage.

These are usually constructed from LED video wall panels and depending on the location of use, the brightness can be turned up or down to combat the extreme brightness of the sun. Many organizations have tried and failed to provide a digital signage for vehicles, you may ask yourself why? Well mobile or on vehicle digital signage is said to worth an estimated $15 million by 2017, with the revenue earning potential of $63 million per anum.

Funding for vehicle mounted digital signage.

Another challenge is finding a fund manager to understand the innovative design and usage to fund the project, as the hardware can be costly, especially if are looking at 100 vehicles. There are a few of them out there, but we may touch on that in another article.

Get ready to spot the first on vehicle digital signage solution in your area.

Income streams from electronic digital signage systems.

Digital signage systems profits.

The main two categories that digital signage systems come in are either a standalone or networked version, using both can create profitable income streams, read on to discover more.

Interactive digital signage systems.

Usually the networked version then can be split down to interactive or sometimes referred too as touch screens, or non touch displays. This allows consumers to engage further with the electronic signage hardware. So if a female shopping is searching for a blue dress, she could in effect search
all the stores in a shopping mall to check what stock they had right there and then. Making an immediate purchasing decision.

Wall or free standing digital signage systems.

wall mounted digital signage systemsDepending on the space and location, you have the choice of either a floor standing or wall mounted digital sign. Normally s hopping malls deploy a mix of both types and have the screen in portrait, this makes people notice the ads, otherwise they just think they are TV sets and nothing special, reducing the effectiveness of the advertising campaign.

floor standing digital signage systems

Now we have the basics out the way, we can concentrate on building an extra income stream from the digital signage systems.

Profitable income streams.

We will look at an all in one solution with a screen of 46″, mounted in portrait this is best as with all ads to be I n a high footfall location. If you have a concession in a mall you may be able to have other products you sell advertised on the electronic sign, so people can see them and ask you questions about them. If you had a cloud based solution (networked), you could have it linked to
your eCommerce site so they can order direct and either collect it or have it delivered.

Advertising other businesses services.

This is a rather lucrative opportunity, when done correctly! Most people fail due to one thing, lack of research. So the best thing we could recommend is to try and target local businesses who also pay for advertising, such as yellow book or yellow pages. This means that you will not be wasting your efforts on businesses who cannot see the benefit of advertising.

Create a list of say 200 prospects and contact them, have the displays already in the mall and you could even offer a profit split with the mall or location owner depending on footfall to sweeten the deal. If the product is right for the demographics that frequent the location, you are on a sure winner.

Pricing for the adverts on the digital signage systems does range from $175 to $499 per month, depending on the company’s prod it and duration of the ad.

If you have 2 advertising displays located for your solution, the Initial investment is in the region of $3000, now you off set this with the costs of the ads. If you get 53 committed business owners to advertise, at an average of $220, each month you will turnover $11,660. The advertisers supply, the content so you have no content creation issues, you just upload it. You could pay the mall management $1000 per month and as you can see from the first month, you have recouped your investment and are in profit. Then every month based on a 12 or 24 month contract, you are clearing in the region of $10,000 every month from this single location. Now imagine if you did this
at 4 locations? $40,000 profit per month.

There are many solutions for dynamic advertising, so check out the numerous digital signage systems.

The Rise Of London Digital Signage Successes

London digital signage expansion.

Since 2011, we saw a huge introduction to electronic signage, 3 years on the expansion of London digital signage successes are to be seen everywhere. From small stores, through to the world famous West-field Shopping center, digital advertising is everywhere in on top off buildings!

What digital signage examples, can you see in London?

Almost all the well-heeled hotels have some form of electronic signage, from the Hilton hotel chain to the world renowned Intercontinental Hotel Group. These two examples have been the two main factors in London hotel digital signage, both chains have invested in interactive and wall mounted digital signage, giving anyone who visits their hotels an excellent guest experience.

One question, you have to ask, when you are in England’s capital, is how will London digital signage expand in the coming years, it does seem to be nearing saturation point.

London digital signage – retail examples.

London digital signage

Several clothing designs have used digital advertising to engage with consumers and built their brand. These includes Tommy Hilfiger stores that have an interactive adverting window, that people can check stock when the store is closed, order it and collect it the next morning! We have even seen 24 x 7 launderettes use digital signage in London. The laundry management decided that as they offered a 24 x 7 service, they would use digital signage in the window to attract clients when the store door was locked. While people worked behind the scenes to ensure that garments are ready in the 1 hour service window.

Letting agents in London use window based displays to display the properties on their books, which they rent out. This is a growing sector for London digital signage, the ads are looped around.

Tourist attraction signage.

This ranges from Madame Tussaud’s to the Stage Coach buses that travel London, the buses display ads on small screens for local businesses, so when you jump off the bus to investigate an area of London as part of your tour, you are shown outlets that are advertising for the next area to visit.
This can be in the form of QR codes, so they can be scanned by high end cell phones, when the link opens it takes the tourist to a discount coupon page, allowing the tourists money go further.

The Olympic legacy.

Before the 2012 Olympics in London, the Stratford area of London underwent a major regeneration, now this is the center of most of London digital signage, with almost every bar and restaurant having some kind of electronic sign used to promote their food or drink offerings. Even small coffee shops are deploying digital signage in London, it seems to know no bounds.

So from the regeneration of London for the Olympics, the catalyst began and still continues to expand what is known as the London digital signage phenomena.

Digital Signage Leasing And Rental The Tax Break

Digital signage leasing – cheaper than buying.

Digital signage leasing is one of the more affordable solutions, as is rental when compared to purchasing digital signage hardware. Using these tax efficient methods of acquiring digital signage hardware is one of the closely guarded secrets.

digital signage leasing

Do you know this type of company?

Do you have a competitor who changes their advertising hardware every 18 to 24 months? Are they constantly updating their digital signage hardware? If this is the case, you can be guaranteed that the company is using one of the secrets within the digital advertising industry and that is to use a digital signage leasing company, as reported by Digital Signage Systems Limited.

Why consider digital signage leasing?

As you can appreciate, constantly updating and changing the electronic signage hardware is both time consuming and expensive. What would your competitors do with the old signs that have just been replaced? Well the plain truth is that digital signage leasing companies will normally take old hardware away and dispose of it, selling the old hardware to company that usually reselling it or hiring the hardware out.

Digital signage leasing puts the buyer in charge so they can control what hardware is used, keeping an eye on the ROI, once the hardware as paid for its self, plans can be made for other locations.

Leasing the digital advertising hardware provides a flexible solution, the customer may thing a screen size of 26” is large enough for their use, but by renting a unit realize that the screen size does not give enough impact to the marketing campaign, so they can then change the hardware with a simple change in the hire agreement. Once the client has decided on a larger size and is comfortable with the solution, they can then re-connect with the digital signage leasing company and lease the hardware.

Hardware leasing is more tax efficient for most businesses, but it is best to consult your tax adviser.

Digital Signage Agency.

If you are thinking of starting your own digital advertising agency, leasing the hardware is a sure way of starting out. You could lease 1 unit in a prime location then promote the advertising spots to the local business owners. It is not uncommon for advertising agencies to charge from $250 for a 30 second ad on a digital kiosk, whilst the media player will store in excess of 700 adverts of 30 second length. Now for a second, if you calculate that leasing the hardware will cost you $219 per month over a 24 month lease, and you have sold 100 30 second ads, but the real truth is that some, (not all) will upgrade to a longer length commercial.

To recap, 100 advertisers buy a single 30 second advertising spot at $250, the advertisers supply the media for the advertising campaign. So the turnover is $250 x 100 = $25,000 per month in sales. Your outgoings are $219 per kiosk, so if you had 3 in position the total cost for leasing the digital signage is $659, not forgetting the electricity or internet connection, so if we rounded it up to $1000 per month for outgoings you ought to be covered. This gives a profit per month of $24,000 and that is without anyone upgrading! Over a year, you stand to make $240,000 from this single location.

Many people ignore the options of affordable digital signage, will you now overlook digital signage leasing?

Are you using DOOH Advertising for your business?

Discover what DOOH advertising can do for your business.

Are you struggling to achieve your sales targets or are you using DOOH advertising for your business, with successful results?

Don’t be left behind, whilst your competition is printing thousands of fliers, advertising their goods, you could be broadcasting multiple ad campaigns at directed people to the maximum results. Paper leaflets and posters date very quickly, whereas electronic digital signage is a state-of-the-art format, which can be quickly and easily – at the click of a button – updated or amended.

DOOH refers to digital out of home, meaning the advertising people see in public areas, like shopping malls, dental offices or entertainment venues, other than advertising viewed in the house, via a television or home personal computer. Screens, large and small can be found on our urban landscape with familiarity, so much so we readily accept them.

But it is not only the screen which instigates a successful advertising campaign, it is also additional gadgets and facilities like mobile charging points, USB flash drive, regular AC sockets and wireless recharging ports in free standing digital signage kiosks at transit stations. How can you not notice an ad campaign, as you plug in your flat battery electronic device? Providing a service to customers is just as important as broadcasting a commercial.

DOOH advertising for retailers.

DOOH advertisingAs a retailer you have many applications on which to focus your advertising campaign on, from a small POP LED or LCD screen, to a large screen wall mounted plasma, through to the more unique surface of a vending machine or a transparent display box. Virtually anything is possible – any surface can project DOOH onto it, or have a screen hung from it – particularly indoors. Whether you use indoor or outdoor DOOH advertising will depend on the traffic; vehicle or foot. The best locations for digital signage where people congregate, fitness centers, education facilities, airports, museums, conferences, hotel lobbies and sporting venues.

The response to several survey about DOOH advertising has revealed some surprising facts. Apart from the obvious expectations of successful media advertising, people enjoy the different and magical experience the screens can bring. A demonstration was carried out in Hong Kong, where a Serengeti game reserve was streamed to a bus shelter on the street. A pin hole camera captured the surrounding city features; road, buildings, weather etc. and combined the two images onto one screen – the result was an amazing video of zebras stampeding down the Hong Kong street. So, if this magic can happen, can a customers image be combined with a thousand dollar dress and accessories, as a virtual changing room mirror, or can a home designer provide a bewitching realistic scene with your furniture and decoration and that new 80” HD tv you’ve always wanted! (Will it be enough to persuade your wife?)

There is no end to the possibilities of digital advertising – but are you using DOOH advertising for your business?

Sunlight Readable Screen Enclosures for year round protection.

Sunlight readable screen enclosures, why?

When digital signage is deployed outdoors in bright sunlight, sunlight readable screen enclosures are required to protect the display from failing.

Is this a new fad?

Well if you insist on replacing damaged displays due to them failing a fad, yes it is. What you have to realize is that sunlight readable screen enclosures are there to provide the front line protection for the hardware, accommodated inside.

These protective kiosks, provide the protection from vandalism and theft, so the hardware can run in extreme locations, when the temperature hits a high of 140 degrees Fahrenheit, you have to think of LCD Enclosure Solutions Inc who specialize in manufacturing these outdoor digital signage kiosks.

What do sunlight readable screen enclosures do?

Simply, these outdoor high bright screen totems, ensure that the screen can be seen in high bright locations were the footfall is high. Normal commercial grade screens blacken with prolonged use in direct sunlight; this is when high bright screens are used. These screens such as the ones manufactured by Dynascan have brightness up to 5,000 candelas. That is 12 times brighter than a domestic grade TV display. If you have ever taken a laptop outdoors to work on and struggled to see the screen, this is the problem that sunlight readable screen enclosures solve.

Who needs this type of outdoor digital signage?

Most Quick Serve Restaurants use outdoor advertising screens in their drive thru area, is one high demand industry along with open shopping malls that have a center courtyard.

So any business that has a need to deploy outdoor digital signage displays in direct sunlight; most applications for digital signage come in to this area.
Have you ever been to a location and could not see the display due to the lack of brightness from the display? If you have encountered this, the wrong type of screen has been used and it will only be a matter of a few months before the screen fails completely.

sunlight readable screen enclosures

What makes a sunlight readable screen different?

These displays have a much greater brightness, as much as 12 times the normal domestic TV brightness. But these do put out some heat and have their own cooling system built in, this is why when considering a sunlight readable enclosure, you need to consider one with an air conditioning unit as these provide all the cooling and heating control required to deal with the extreme conditions.

The next thing to consider is how they are to be fixed to the floor; ideally you need to bolt them with at least 10 bolts, to ensure the kiosk can’t be pulled over by vandals or vehicles trying to steal them.

Without a screen the outdoor advertising solution is dead in the water, as the key is to have the content shown to consumers, if they cannot see the screen the ads are not working, this is the reason for sunlight readable screen enclosures.

These protective housings are fitted with anti reflective windows to reduce the glare and the high brightness screens do the rest. Make sure when deciding on a solution that the displays have a gap of around 2″ otherwise the heat between the sunlight readable screen enclosure and the display with have a heat problem. Also if someone throws something at the window, the flex in the window may damage the screens surface. Selecting the correct sunlight readable screen enclosures stops all the above problems.

When you out enjoying the sun, look around to see if you can see any sunlight readable screen enclosures.

Cellular advertising using 3 and 4G

Cellular advertising – verge of something big?

cellular advertisingJust look around who is using a mobile device at any time of the day, this is why cellular advertising is on the verge of becoming big. With all ages using mobile devices to communicate the market is massive.

Airport advertising using 3 and 4G.

When you are at an airport and want to send emails before you board your plane, you usually have the option to use airport wireless networks. Sometimes you have to watch ads before you are actually connected, the advertising content is usually from one of the outlets in the airport, so depending on the time of day, it could be a restaurant using day parting to offer a discount meal – ideal for a no frills flight!

Once you are connected you can then send the emails, this is one way in which digital advertising is being utilized on 3 and 4G wireless networks.

Tablets are over selling laptops – why?

Well the simple reason is these have the same functionality of a laptop, they take up much less space in your travel bag and you can do everything other computer devices can do.

Technology is increasing and fast, remember when you get off a plane and you are waiting to be greeted with a taxi driver? Remember the tattered pieces of paper, with your name on them? Well on a recent business trip, I saw a taxi driver using a tablet device to display the party’s name he was collecting!

In previous months we have seen restaurants greet diners with tablet based menus, complete with a wine list.

Cellular advertising in bars and restaurants.

Watch out in the coming months for a digital jukebox, that customers get to choose the music that is played using their mobile device; this can be their smartphone or tablet. The customer picks the record form their own iTune library or music library on their cellular device.

Mom and pop stores using cellular advertising.

Many mom and pop stores who could not run to expensive large commercial grade displays, so they reverted to using tablets that had an internet connection, starting a trend themselves! These tablets could be used to direct the customer to the stores website so they could see the full range and order online and then collect in store. Many of the stores noticed that they increased their sales up to 15.7% per month, due to having special offers on the cellular tablets. Something they had tried on their website alone with minimal success.

The main reason for the success was that while people waited for their goods, they would browse the special offers and order 1 or 2 items whilst at the counter.

You can use anything from a small 7” tablet up to an Ipad, the only real requirement is that the device has either 3 or 4G connectivity.

Digital advertising is growing and in some sector’s hitting saturation, but a new sector to watch out for is cellular advertising.

Discover The 3 Trade Tips That Will Increase Business Profit.

Increase business profit with digital signage.

So, the secret of a successful digital signage campaign is to discover the 3 trade tips that will increase business profit.

  • Digital Signage
  • Mobile Digital Signage
  • Outdoor Digital Signage

The digital signage industry is worth billions of dollars and encompasses every sector of business to customer, in a sales capacity. Whilst it attracts big investors it is equally suitable to the smaller retail enterprise. Because it is wide reaching, electronic, easy to set up, alter and update and is an eye catching method of promotion, it has found its way into our everyday lives. Sometimes we are hardly aware of the impact electronic advertising has, because it is all around us; from mobile or cell phone adverts, bus stations, hotel lobbies right through to medical receptions and government offices. Whether it is used solely for advertising purposes or information, (aka infomercials) interspersed with external adverts for merchandise, products and services. Check out what the BBC have to say.

business profit increase using digital signage

Could mobile digital signage increase your business profit?

Mobile digital advertising is a fairly new concept and is slowly, yet confidently being embraced. This category features vehicles with digital screens on the sides, and buses with video panels. It is commonplace for advertising to be featured as static images on moving vehicles, but this is the next leap in the evolution of digital technology. There are safety issues to consider and government transportation guidelines to adhere to, but it won’t be long before we see the latest trending ad on the road. An enterprising business can make a lot of money hiring students to walk around shopping malls, ‘wearing’ a mobile digital signage screen – like an old fashioned sandwich board. It’s an innovative media which is a very cost effective way of covering a large number of people in a large area. Apart from purchasing the mobile digital signage vest (screens front and/or back, with adjustable straps for the wearer) they can also be rented. Alternatively there is also a smaller clip-on screen; the size of a name badge, which can likewise be attached to a lanyard. These clever little wearable gadgets are wireless, battery powered and the content can be uploaded remotely. Generally, several small digital adverts would be run on a loop, with the content changing every few moments and are very effective.

One of the most common places for electronic ad billboards is outdoor digital signage. From the local recreation playground to a shopping mall; digital out of home or DOOH can be seen. It has many uses from the obvious advertising of services, trades or products, but is also invaluable for emergency evacuation, in the extreme possibility of a terrorist threat, natural disaster or other urgent safety escape route. It is reassuring to know a properly planned and up to date program can be monitored, or updated at the click of a button. With these digital screens being outdoors, they definitely need protection from theft, the natural elements of moisture or excessive heat and cold temperature and deliberate or accidental damage. There are many specialist companies in this industry, who are all pleased to offer advice and a competitive price for both the hardware and protective enclosures.

Let them assist your company, increase your business profit.

Indoor digital signage increases brand awareness

Indoor digital signage solutions.

Digital advertising is popular for businesses that are looking to increase their brand awareness. Indoor digital signage builds customer confidence in the band and builds brand loyalty.

What can indoor digital signage do?

The electronic signage is used to promote a brand, it can also be used to inform brand conscious consumers of a new product launch and so they can get on the pre-launch list and be one of the first to buy the “must have” item.

They can be used to test the water for a new colour scheme, so little if any overstock mistakes are made. Even before the item has gone into production, which saves time and financial investment.

Indoor digital signage hardware can be used to provide a global launch, so a band may launch a new product across the world stores on the same day, as soon as the store opens, no matter what time zone it is in. This way they have the upper hand against their competition, from launching a competing product.

Indoor digital signage solutions available.

Interactive digital signage, these touch screen kiosks are used in digital advertising as the front line for market research. These units have a built in small PC that records what the consumer enters into the screen, by touching the infra-red touch screen. Screen sizes are from 40” to 65” and in portrait with small units having screens up to 50” in landscape position; these are used for disability compliant areas.

indoor digital signage touchscreen

Free standing indoor digital signage hardware is a kiosk without the touch screen. This works by displaying commercials at intervals, which are preset within the menu of the media player. These can be found mainly in portrait with screen sizes from 32” to 80”. The options are then if you require a cloud based solution or a standalone solution. This then dictates what ad player you require within the solution.

Wall mounted digital posters, these are a screen with a built in advert player, again depending if the advertising media is going to be updated using the cloud or manually, will depend on which advertising player is integrated into the screen. These screens come in sizes from 17” to 80”, again you can have interactive screens if you require.

wallmounted indoor digital signageTransparent digital signage is usually seen at prestigious locations, when an expensive item needs to be viewed yet protected from theft. This could be something like a Rolex watch or Cartier diamond bracelet. The units is completely see through at the front and sides with digital advertising shown on the rear wall.

Cost of digital signage indoors varies.

Depending on which type of indoor digital signage solution you require and what whistle and bells are needed will establish the price tag. Wall mounted units run from less than $1000 to an 82” indoor unit being priced at US$22,799 that is controlled remotely using the cloud with an interactive screen.

Now you have the data to make an informed decision on what you need to make your indoor digital signage campaign a success.

LED video wall – from Hollywood to New York Churches

Applications for an LED video wall.

Ever wondered who uses an LED video wall and why? Well let us share some information with you on the LED video wall market. More information can be seen at http://www.digitalsignagetoday.com/topics/led-signs/

Do you know what an LED video wall is?

racecourse led video wall

You may have seen the signs at the gas station, giving the price of the fuel, these are LED signs, yet no as sophisticated as an LED video wall. Usually at a gas station they are one color normally red or green. They provide information and this is where the similarities end!

A video wall using LED panels are constructed in elements of the colors, pitched evenly over a panel that measures, just short of 3 feet square. The pitch between the clusters of LED’s is called pitch and this dictates the clarity of the image close up (within 6 feet) and how far away the image can be seen clearly. Normally, a low number means the advertising wall is better. The number is preceded with the letter P, for Pitch. These range from P3 to P20.

Who uses these video walls and why?

You can see these LED video walls almost on every corner, but have you really noticed them? The fact is they do blend into their surroundings if that is what the clients wants and then it is up to the content to grab the viewer’s attention.
Church LED video walls – these are deployed to provide the community with event updates within the house of worship, they also provide information on mile stones of people from the congregation, this may be a special birthday, or wedding anniversary. One real winner is to keep everyone informed of a fund raising event, so the congregation and the community can see how much the house of worship has raised for the good cause.

Entertainment video walls – organizations such as Madame Tussaud’s are deploying LED video walls on the Hollywood location, to give a sneak peak of what the exhibition holds inside. This in turn boosts the number of visitors and tourist through the door and increases profit.

The LED video wall does not have to be in static location, it can be mounted on the rear of a truck and used in highly congested areas at peak times and so the digital advertising gets as many viewers as possible. This is something banks are using to promote lower cost mortgages and savings accounts. They are even used on the side of buses, to provide an income stream for the bus company, by advertising local attractions in destinations such as Florida that have high tourist numbers.

Costs.

This could be the restrictive part! With many solutions on the market, a typical price for an LED video wall that is 3 feet high by 6 feet wide is around $3500, but bearing in mind that the ads alone used to supplement the investment will pay for the hardware in 2 or 3 months. With an extra income stream every month following the ROI, that is 100% profit.

Now you know what to look for and consider when choosing an LED video wall solution.

Digital signage benefits for restaurants

Restaurant digital signage benefits.

Restaurant advertising is essential for success; this is why digital signage is paramount to any restaurant. Let us look at the solutions available.

Without advertising a business is dead?

Is this correct? Well think for a moment, for a new restaurant with no reputation how are they going to get people in their establishment? It is essential for the business owner to use any form of advertising, the most effective advertising is dynamic advertising. This is when clear images, videos and audio are used to provide an engaging visual experience. This in turns educates the consumers as to what food items are on the menu.

Different kinds of digital signage solutions for restaurants.

digital signage in restaurants

The typical digital advertising solution in a QSR is to have displays lined up above the food counter, so consumers can view the menu and see what specials are on offer that day. This solution is a digital menu board.

Tablet digital signage is yet a new solution, these are similar to electronic menu boards, but are located around the restaurant, so you can peruse the menu and then order it, usually in a waitress restaurant environment.

Benefits to restaurants.

Using digital advertising is proving to be a very important part of any restaurant’s advertising campaigns. Historically, the restaurant industry has used traditional printed menus, now the challenge here is that they can be very restrictive. You cannot promote specials unless you run a blackboard too, this is becoming very old fashioned and seems to be dying out.

Electronic signage allows the restaurant owners to promote local produce, whilst maximizing profit with the special meal deals. They also reduce costs as the content can be updated remotely or locally within seconds without additional costs, unlike printed menus.

Electronic menu boards engage with the consumer in the QSR and in turn increase turnover, as one restaurant tested this with 1 location using digital menu boards and another similar location using no electronic signage. An increase of 32% in sales was seen in the location with the digital menu boards!

Tablet digital signage.

tablet digital signage

Tablet digital signage is a relatively new concept; it starts when the customer enters the restaurant and is seated. They are handed a tablet that has the menu displayed on it along with brinks that complement the food, ensuring the dining experience is an enjoyable one. Once they make their choices, they can either kick back and chat or use the tablet to play 2 person games against the person they have come with.

Just before the meal is due to be served, their server approaches them and asks them to enter their email address, for future discount coupons, thus building a database of customers to market too. Then they instantly receive a free drink with their meal for providing their email address (once it has been verified, by the consumer clicking a verification link).

The meal is then served and when the diners have finished and go to pay, they are then given the opportunity to rate the restaurant. Another opportunity to collect emails or even use a Facebook page for the restaurant, to increase social media activity.

As you can see, there are several ways in which electronic signage can be used in restaurants. Any of these digital signage solution work.

MOOH – Mobile Out Of Home Advertising Solutions

Mobile Out Of Home Advertising.

We have all seen DOOH (Digital Out Of Home Advertising), now the scene is set for Mobile Out of Home Advertising (MOOH). There are several solutions so let us look at them and decide how we can use them.

With over 3.2 billion mobile devices being used every single day, this is a medium to consider for advertising!

MOOH – Mobile Out Of Home WiFi advertising.

This new concept is used in large footfall areas such as airports, ferry terminals, train stations and hotels. The principle is rather basic; mobile users view an ad in exchange for complimentary internet access. This allows brands to target the mobile users through this medium. These work on both Android and Apple operating systems.

Mobile out of home advertising.

This is literary! Displays are either worn, or placed on bicycles that display ads and promote products and services in a preset area. The restrictions are down to the battery life for the work hardware and if power can be connected to the cycle solution.

Usually the displays are not sunlight readable, so on a bright day the screens can be unreadable, resulting in a failed advertising campaign.

Other types of mobile out of home advertising is using an LED panel built onto a van or truck body.

Mobile out of home advertising – the fast growing sector.

mobile out of home

Mobile advertising using QR codes are increasing in use, people scan the QR code after seeing the promotion from the advertising company and are redirected to a web page with either a special offer or discount page. They can then redeem the discount at the advertisers premises.

Now with restaurants using this type of advertising, it is one of the fastest growing methods of MOOH (Mobile Out Of Home) advertising.

Checking if your MOOH has an ROI.

One way is for an outlet, in the example we will use a restaurant. Scans the discount page QR code at the counter top whilst the POS system processes the payment. This way the managers of the franchise can monitor how their advertising buck is working, which campaign is working and which is not. Allowing the outlet to maximize profit.

Reports can be created, on who scanned the QR code, who redeemed it and even an opportunity to re market the brand to people who scanned the QR code and did not redeem the discount. A retailer can also see who has shared the discount voucher on social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.

Out of home advertising is here to stay, as can be seen on Wikipedia with MOOH (Mobile Out Of Home) advertising increasing fast.

LED Signs Used By Fast Food Outlets and In the Pews

LED signs for outdoor advertising.

LED signs are not limited to large budget, this technology is rather affordable. So much so these are being used in fast food restaurants and house of worship digital signage to provide outdoor digital signage.

LED signs

Fast food LED signs.

New York’s Times Square saw Buffalo Wild Wings open a restaurant recently. Here they are using LED signs to improve brand awareness, as well as advertising special deals and up selling consumers. Buffalo Wild Wings are now set to rock Times Square with their digital signage LED sign.

House of worship LED Signs.

Religious organizations are also using outdoor LED signs, these are used to inform the community throughout the day, so parishioners can see if their fundraising efforts are hitting the target. Not just used to promote giving, these outdoor LED signs are used to promote baptisms, weddings and even used to highlight the life of a recently departed member of the congregation.

So what hardware is needed.

An LED sign is made of up of panels that are 3 feet square, each panel depending on the specification is categorized in P, the letter P stands for pixels. So a P6 has pixels at 6mm or ¼” centers, a P10 has pixels at 10mm or 3/8” canters and so on up to P30. However the issue is anything over P10 will result in a poor sign with a slightly blurred image, when viewed from a distance of 5 feet or more. This is one of the problems that people face, as they compromise on the quality of the image to price. Yet, today the price of LED signs has fallen due to P3 panels being launched.

The panels are configured in a frame to create the size of panel size the user requires. Then once the installation is set up in the frame, cables for power and data are then run from the outdoor LED sign to an office inside the building, this can be the fast food outlet or the Church.

Screen Processor.

Now, when you have seen these large screens before, you will notice that they can be split into separate zones, this is done through the screen processor, this in one part that many cut corners, yet this is the hardware than can take your content and create awesome content!

The processor is the brains behind the LED screen, it can create screen within screens or the advertiser can use the massive video wall to promote their product.

Budgetary cost for LED signs.

People see these solutions and presume they are out of their price range; yet these are one of the most affordable solutions. With a 6 feet by 3 feet outdoor LED video wall complete with a processor and all the relevant accessories would run any organization at $3,000. A P6 screen for the same size would cost around $5,000, but remember if you resell space on the processor you can pull back return on investment in less than 2 months, creating an additional income stream.

We hope these points have helped provide some insight into LED signs.

Tips For Church Digital Signage Success

Church digital signage success tips.

Digital signage can be seen in almost every location, now church digital signage is seeing a large increase, due to the amount of interaction with the parishioners and the greater community. Let us look at tips, so you can create a successful church digital signage solution.

church digital signage

Parishioners.

When deploying electronic noticeboards in Churches, we have to be sympathetic to the more traditional parishioner, who may take offense at these large screens being installed in the House Of God. It is best to have a brief meeting to explain how these electronic signs will help the Church and inform the community, which in turn will certainly increase the number of worshipers.

Indoor or outside church digital signage?

Many houses of worship have digital signage hardware both indoors and outside, this does come down to budget, however there are lots of benefits.

Outdoor LED memorials are idea to keep the community up to date with the current events happening in the church. These run 24 x 7, with some churches offering sponsors (local businesses) the ability to publicize they support the church. This is usually in the form of a monthly subscription of between $200 and $500 per year. If 20 sponsors support the church and pay for 12 months, the hardware has been paid for, with nearly $4,000 – 6,000 going into the Church funds. LED video walls run for around $3,000 for a 6’ wide x 3’ high screen, including all the hardware to add the content.

Indoor digital signage, these are designed for inside the church, they can be wall mounted or floor standing. Used for updating any fundraising event and promoting it through the community.

The electronic notice boards can be used to celebrate a birth or life of one of the congregation. It can display prays for the sick of the parish, so we keep them dear to our heart. They can also be used to provide future events within the churches calendar.

LCD or Projector?

Some religious buildings prefer to use either high definition flat screen LCD displays, while some prefer to use projectors. This is down to personal choice and the available space required, as the projector solution will take more space than a flat panel display solution.

Screen size for church digital signage.

The standard size of a screen used for church digital signage is 46”- this can either be in landscape or portrait. Yet the most popular unit is a floor standing electronic sign that takes up little room and is updated using a flash drive. Usually nothing larger than 55” is used in any religious establishment.

Content creation.

This is easily achieved with many digital signage software packages, designed for church digital signage. Simply drag and drop and create a very professional campaign for your church. There are many church digital signage software providers, so check them out and do not be afraid of trying the free ones.

We hope you take some of these tips and use them for your church digital signage project.

Tips for picking the best house of worship projector

Picking A House Of Worship Projector?

With many Churches and other religious buildings looking to use house of worship projectors during their service, there are some tips to make sure you get the right solution for your house of worship.

house of worship projector

Screen size for your house of worship projector?

This is one of the main factors, how big do you need the projector screen to be? It is best not to guess, so use a tape measure and get the accurate dimensions. So that the house of worship projector can impress the people of the community.

Distance?

Than next factor is to discover how the far you want the projected image, as a golden rule, double the projector screen is an excellent distance, from the projector to the screen. So if the screen is 10 feet wide, the projector should be around 20 feet away from the screen. This will certainly depend on any space limitations in your house of worship.

Aspect ratio.

This is the projected image shape, either rectangle or square. The most cost effective solution would be to go for a unit that has an aspect ratio of 16:9 or 16:10, this will future proof your investment.

Brightness of the projector.

Most houses of worship are painted white, so the best brightness is a unit with 5,000 lumen. This will provide a crystal clear projected image for congregations up to 150 seated individuals. If the congregation is larger, say 250, you may need to increase the lumen to 7,000, so that everyone can the image in ambient lighting.

What about projection?

Is the House of Worship left unattended at any time, so parishioners can come and pray? In that case a security cage may be the best option, but then again an anti-vandal all one 1 solution may be what you need. At the end of the day, it will come down to budget.

What projectors can do in Houses of Worship?

They can keep the congregation up to speed with the service, reading psalms, singing hymns and community notifications can all be shown on the large screen. Without the added expense of someone having to do any printing, then what happens when the printing machine breaks! Or an expensive toner leaks, one of the sides people will have ink on their hands.

We will see more religious buildings using projectors to interact with the congregation and the wider community. Thus increasing the numbers of the parishioners through the doors, down to the house of worship projector.

Digital projector sales set to soar

Digital Projectors and 4K!

With many digital projectors on the market and the introduction of 4K projectors, every manufacture including Sony and Christie are bringing out a high end solution. With over 195,000 digital projectors sold alone in India in 2013, the market it set to burst!

More and more businesses are waking up to the realization that they can use digital projectors outdoors to project their dynamic advertisements on their building, providing a a unique marketing concept.

Initially, Christie entered into the outdoor, commercial cinema area with their 4K projector; these are the beasts of projectors, with a price tag to match. The Christie Digital 129-004105-02 D4K35 3-chip DLP 4K Projector is priced at $114,750 and there are more expensive projectors from the same stable!

Is it too early to invest in 4K digital projectors?

digital projectors

When HD flat screen displays came out, they trended well, with people ordering them as soon as they had been released. The fact was, we had never seen an image as good as on HD, until now! 4k is more than twice the amount of pixels both horizontal and vertical pixels than a 1080P digital projector.

Well, the honest answer is yes! Let 4K develop and this will lower the prices for the other digital projectors, so manufacturers can sell the stock and then push the new line. This will in turn, allow most people who like to kick back with friends over a beer and watch outdoor TV, to install a good quality, high lumen projector in their backyard.

Taking the home cinema outdoors is the new thing to be doing. We saw flat panel displays installed in 2009 in backyards, now it is time for digital projectors

Potential problem.

One thing is for certain, if a projector is being deployed outside, some type of protection is required, to ensure the bulb lasts longer than it should, with 4K replacement bulbs costing as much as $1600. So you do not want to be replacing them every week.

We spoke to ProEnc (http://proencltd.com) who have been manufacturing outside projector enclosures and they have seen a large rise in orders, for their protective housing from countries such as Russia, Australia, Romania and America. Their outdoor, environmental projector enclosure allows anyone to put a projector out and leave it out all year, in all weathers. The unit has a special heating and cooling system that safeguards the bulb from prematurely failing, due to one of the following: the heat, cold or moisture.

They put this new rise in demand down to the market getting ready to launch the 4K solutions. Now is a time to grab yourself a bargain and get more affordable digital projectors.

Outdoor Entertaining In Your Own Backyard

WFO – Outdoor Entertaining

It has come that time of year again, to look at how we can spend more time outdoors, it might be building an outdoor wood fired oven, or just to create an outdoor entertainment area, let us look at what’s available.

wfo outdoor entertaining

Wood fired oven.

Ideal for impromptu outdoor entertaining family and friends, but most importantly it is a good way in which to share food and is extremely social. These are ideal for cooking anything from pizzas to steak! So let us look at the build.

Building a wood fired oven.

You must start off with a solid foundation, usually 6” deep and reinforced with steel mesh, ensuring it is level. So tamp it down with a wooden plank, then you need to decide upon the height of the opening of the outdoor oven, this dictates how how you need to build the supporting wall. Once the wall is build you have to put some steels in to support the oven floor, on top of the steels (these can be 4” x 2” hollow section put 1/2” thick marine plywood on top creating a pool effect, then fill this area with cement and put some reinforced steel in. Then start building your oven, an awesome resource is (http://www.fornobravo.com/forum/) Forno Bravo – we use this website for awesome tips and inspiration. There is nothing nicer than outdoor entertaining and sharing food with people you care for.

Firing the wood fired oven.

Over years of practice, we found that if you create a U shape with 3 logs on the base with the gap opening to the front of the oven, then put some newspaper in the opening. On top of the paper place some kindling (I find thin slivers of wood best, then on top of this place some thin twigs, then gradually get thicker up to 2” in diameter. Then all you need to so is light the newspaper and the rest just lights. Once the fire starts put thicker logs up to 10” in front of the fire to dry out, then when the fire is almost out, add them and the fire starts again.

Cooking temperatures for different food.

Pizza needs a fierce high temperature, but the diversity of the wood fired oven allows you to cook almost anything in there at low temperatures or as the temperature is falling. Ideal for cooking brisket or pulled pork. We have had our wood fired oven up to 999F (that is as high as our infra red thermometer goes to, cooked pizza and then let it lover to around 140F and put the oven door too, prepare the pulled pork, lamb tagine or brisket and put it in the oven so cook long and slow in the residual temperature of the wood fired oven.

What next for outdoor entertaining?

So the wood fired oven was complete, but we needed an area for family and friends to enjoy the food outdoors and the outdoor entertaining area, so we started building a seating area for them, but one thing was missing – how do we entertain them whilst they are waiting for their food? Two options came to mind, show a video but we would need a projector or to use a TV, the problem was in our area it rains a lot unfortunately, so any hardware like this would be ruined in the first rain shower.

End result.

The result was that our outdoor, backyard entertainment area is used every weekend, and when anyone wants a party, they know to call us and we will host it. One thing is for sure, installing the wood fired oven was the best thing we did and our family and friends love our outdoor entertaining experience.

AV installers using outdoor projectors

AV installers now deploying outdoor home theaters.

Audio visual installers have a wide range of services, from installing indoor digital advertising displays in rugby stadiums to deploying outdoor projectors in bars, outdoors.

Audio visual engineers are specialist fitters of electronic components that are used to educate and entertain people, from schools with interactive whiteboard and projector installations. The environments that they work in could not be more different. From indoors in a controlled area such as a class room or board room to an outdoor environment that is open to the elements, such as an outdoor cinema. The hardware in any one of these applications can cost thousands of dollars, and if they became damaged due to the weather or physical attack, the audio visual company could be responsible in replacing the hardware at their expense.

Outdoor installations have comprised of prestigious projects in Great Britain, when the Queens Palace in London was illuminated with projectors, in the 2012 anniversary celebrations. Since then we have seen endless bars and clubs installing projectors outdoors with more and more installation businesses looking at solutions to protect the projector outdoors from the weather. As there are not many weatherproof projectors on the market that are available immediately, this is why weatherproof projector housing comes into place.

These are outdoor projector boxes designed to take various size of projectors up to 9000 lumen, these can be pole, ceiling or mounted from beams or even scaffolding poles.

Indoor installations are a little simpler, but when the hardware is placed in public areas, the hardware needs to have some type of protection, so no one can mess with the cables, it would not look well if someone got an electrical shock due to them messing with cables. The commercial grade screens need to be also protected, could you imagine the situation if a frustrated football fan threw a drink at the display and damaging the screen. Now using protective digital signage housings, prevents this happening. It provides a solid protective casing and stops anyone messing with the hardware and also protects the hardware from any physical attacks.

Cost effectiveness is essential in this time of financial restraint, so when people are looking at installing any hardware in an area that can be classed at potentially risky, hardware protection is needed.

Outdoor home cinemas are also increasing; people are valuing the time with the family, when we are not working. This is why this kind of installation is increasing, people would rather spend money and have an awesome backyard, so they can spend time with their family, either chilling in the pool, relaxing in the spa or just watching outdoor TV programs. Some homes are even having wood fired ovens installed, so the extended family can come over and spend a full day. The wood fired oven can be used to cook everything from brisket, ribs to pizzas and bear can chicken, this is awesome as more and more people value time with the ones they love, and look forward to family time at the weekend.

AV engineers are seen in educational facilities, outdoor venues and now you can expect to these engineers working in your neighbors back garden, so do not be alarmed. With the price of hardware falling, more installations will be seen in every neighborhood and more details on AV engineers can be seen at http://www.digitalsignagetoday.com/topics/installation-integration/

Creative Effects using Digital Projectors

Digital Projectors for advertising.

There are some amazing and diverse opportunities to use digital projectors both indoors and outside. In the UK, one of the most surreal displays was in the form of colored images projected onto Buckingham Palace, in London; home of the Queen and the Royal Family. This was during her 2012 Diamond Jubilee Celebrations, where an evening concert backdrop was displayed directly onto the front walls of the Palace, choreographed in time with the musicians and artists performing that night.

Many months of planning produced a spectacular scenic background, which added to the already electrifying atmosphere. Thousands of positive comments were made about the unique way of displaying the images and the internet was full of photographs about the event. Obviously it was a very popular platform for broadcasting images, so it has its place on our high street; particularly for brand marketing and reaching a wide audience.

Using big images from digital projectors.

We like BIG pictures – it’s like being in the cinema where clever technology is portraying 3D images onto building walls and surfaces, another example being Marble Arch in London. Wide screen digital projectors produces amazing results with clear images, striking colors and seamless visuals on a blank canvas. Virtually any surface is suitable; from a derelict building to a waterfall creates a magical scene. As technology increases and advances, projectors are getting smaller, yet with incredible brightness and clarity of the pictures.

digital projectors
Two points to consider are the length the image is to be projected across – the distance between the digital projectors lens and the surface and protection of the expensive hardware. Manufacturers will have the specifications for optimum distance for the planning of the operation. The obstacle you want to avoid is a distorted image because of distance from each piece of kit.

The second point is that of security and protection of the projector. There are several specialty, outdoor projector housings, made of high quality steel and powder coated for a sleek stylish look. It keeps the wet (British!) weather out, a thermostatically controlled heating an cooling system means it is adaptable for any location… Imagine a famous brand promotional campaign, ie. a perfume manufacturer or cola supplier, with their image projected onto a wall of ice in a cold store during a marketing event! The possibilities are endless….
